The last few weeks, er rather the last few months of work remind me of the time my brother and I foolishly thought it would be fun to skateboard on the family treadmill. We quickly realized that by holding onto both rails of the machine to stay upright, you therefore could not hit the big red button to stop the speeding skateboard underneath you. Fortunately there was no major damage when the skateboard flew out from behind and smashed into the wall.
This project for work has definitely become the most frustrating, and challenging experience I have had. Coordinating inadequate responses from so many different state and federal agencies that all want their own recognition and demands is a demanding task. I keep feeling like we are so close to the finish line, only to find myself so stressed and exhausted at the end of the day that I think perhaps today will be the day I learn how to drink beer.
I have prided myself over the years in never finding a treadmill that could outrun or outexhaust me. I used to put them at their highest speed, the tallest incline, and still feel as though I could outrun the machine.
Today I feel as though I have finally found the machine that may out-pace me. Worse yet, I’m grasping around looking for that big red stop button but finding nothing…
