Well I did quite a bit of class changes last minute this term. I was
not really sure how I would like these classes, or how tough of a term
it would be because of that. So just a few thoughts after two days of
classes.
“Interest Groups,” a political science course, had the potential to be
a very boring class. However, I’ll say that after four hours so far,
the professor has the unique capability of keeping a boring subject
interesting. I found myself intrigued the entire four hours, only to
walk out and realize how boring it really was. That is the sign of a
good professor, words I have heard about this particular person before.
“Survey of Music Lit” is all web based. I read the first chapter
today. This class looks like it will not be too difficult. I should be
able to finish the whole class before midterms.
Lastly, “Social Liberation” is part of the Conflict Resolution graduate
program. I almost dropped this one tonight before class, but decided to
give it a try. My other option was to take Intro to Nonviolence
Studies on the web. However, after four hours I am glad I stayed in
it. Isbel is a professor I have had before, and she takes the idea of
an “engaged pedagogy” beyond the expectations for college studies.
What at first seems silly, becomes a community of students in less than
four hours. This should be a good class.
A previous classmate is in the “social liberation” class. And because
of the uniqueness of this classmate, and the power of his words, I have
decided to start a new weekly feature on Tuesday nights. “Tom’s Words
of Wisdom”
From Tonight:
Two rules in life:
1. All people are good.
2. I can learn something from everyone in life.
That’s all for now, I’ll blog about the other classes later…
