So I suppose its been a while. Time has flown by this fall… I remarked today that I feel like I’m physically here, but the rest of me is hitch-hiking in China somewhere. At some point so much occured at once, that I think I’ve just lost track of time since then.
So maybe the basics [...]

You know you’re from Florida when….
1. You have FEMA’s number on your speed dialer.
2. You have more than 300 ‘C’ and ‘D’ batteries in your kitchen drawer.
3. Your pantry contains more than 20 cans of Spaghetti O’s.

I realize I’ve been on hiatus for a while now. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got plenty to say, but I haven’t wanted to take the time to say it all. Kaite and I spent a few days on Lopez Island getting a little R & R after New Orleans. From there we decided [...]

Seriously folks, get out of here. I know for sure that MSNBC and CBS are both here. I have counted at least six camera crews in this little gymnasium. So far I have watched them get right up to the African American lady in a wheel-chair and follow her all around the room. [...]

Just in, MSNBC will be here all day long. They’ve been broadcasting from outside all morning, when we open the door at 9am we’ll be live. So take a look when you get a chance, maybe record some of it for me if you are sitting at home.
There is another rumor going around that [...]

I know you are all expecting a long ranting post, but honestly I am still too tired and drained. The good news is that Kaite and I have finally solidified our vacation plans. We’re going to leave New Orleans on the 10th, and end up on Lopez Island, part of the San Juan Islands [...]

I’ve been tired, and I haven’t had much to say the past few days. Kaite and I took yesterday off from the computers and worked outside, folding donated clothes, making balloons for kids, and handing out food and water.
I think I’ll wait until tomorrow to post some more thoughts, take care all…

30 days later, the news has stopped following Katrina as a top story. I have to admit, I can’t blame them. The hurricane happened, homes were destroyed, people rescued, celebrities did good deeds, but a full month later its old news. The media is all about selling- thats all it is. People donated money, [...]

Throughout the past two weeks, as I have dealt with hundreds of applicants who did not receive expedited assistance checks, rental assistance checks, or any other type of funding, I have been dumbfounded as to why. As the government proclaimed that anybody who was forced to evacuate and ended up in temporary shelter should [...]

A tough day at the job today, more people needing help. Kaite and I do our best, but we’ve only got so much to give. The good news is that we are moving into a hotel tonight. Although we find some ethical issues of being under a solid roof while others around [...]

It’s 2am and I can’t sleep. It seems like I’ve been up at this time in the morning every day this week.
FEMA has decided to stop issuing $2,000 expedited assistance checks. Initially anybody from the affected area was to receive the money. “Official” word here, or at least from our FEMA official, is that [...]
